The Waterfront Mint is one of only
two privately owned mints in South Africa. We are situated on the tip of
Africa in the beautiful city of Cape Town. |
| We deal mainly in limited edition
gold and silver coins, Krugerrands and gold coin pendants, and invite you
to take a look at some of the beautiful coins we have to offer. |
| Krugerrands - The Krugerrand
is probably the most famous and sought after gold coin in the world.
Since the first Krugerrand was struck
at the South African Mint in 1967, more than 50 million Krugerrands have
been minted.
The Krugerrand is still minted in
the traditional 22 carat gold. Proof quality Krugerrands are available
as limited editions only. |
 |
| Each individual coin and set is
packed with care and is issued with a numbered certificate of authenticity.
Most of our coins depict South Africa's
most attractive asset, our wildlife, and it is only fitting that these
beautiful creatures should be displayed on our most valuable resource namely
gold. |
 |
Natura coin series - Since
the first pure gold - 24 carat - Natura coin was issued in 1994, this series
has become a numismatic success.
2004: The Caracal - The African
Lynx
The Caracal, also known the African
Lynx or Desert Lynx, is a remarkable hunter and is the third theme in the
series, Wild Cats of Africa. |
Birds of Prey Series
Following on the Marine Life series
(1997 - 2002), a new series of the Birds of Prey is depicted on the R2
Crown and 2 1/2c Tickey sterling silver coins.
The theme for the series, for 2004,
is the African Owls and these coins feature both the largest and smallest
of these owls.
Both the R2 “crown” and 2 1/2c “tickey”
were re-introduced in the 1990's, as collectors' coins minted in proof
quality. The R2 denomination appears on the modern version of the crown. |
