The Khama Rhino Sanctuary Trust
is a community based wildlife project, established in 1992 to assist in
saving the vanishing rhino and to restore an area formerly teeming with
wildlife to its previous natural state.
We offer camping and chalet facilities
at Mokongwa Camp situated in the Sanctuary (25 kilometres north of Serowe).
The Camp is a short drive from the entrance gate and accessible without
four wheel drive.
The chalets are popular so it is
best to book in advance. There are 12 campsites, including sites for large
groups. |
| The central feature of each site
is a large Mokongwa tree which provides both character and shade. There
is also a fireplace, braai stand with grill, and tap with birdbath. The
campsites are served by two communal ablution blocks.
Our rustic chalets sleep four people.
Each chalet has a toilet and shower en-suite with hot water, bedding and
towels are provided. Situated by a Mokongwa tree, you will also find a
fireplace, braai stand with grill and tap with birdbath. |

 |
Basic cooking equipment and crockery
is provided, although there is no cooker or fridge.
The A frame is a two storey chalet
which sleeps up to six people, whilst the three square-davels each sleep
two people, with braai area and ablutions, they are ideal for backpackers.
The Sanctuary's roads are well maintained
to make them suitable for self drive game viewing in four and two wheel
drive bakkies. |
| The Sanctuary is home to other wildlife
than rhinos such as zebra, blue wildebeest, giraffe, eland, springbok,
gemsbok, kudu, leopard, African wild cat, brown hyena and many more.
Guided game drives, rhino trails
and nature walks can be booked and paid for at the entrance gate. Both
take about two hours, during which time you will be guided around the Sanctuary
by our well trained and very knowledgeable Rangers.
Khama
Rhino Sanctuary opens every day at 8:00 am and closes at 6:30 pm. Special
arrangements for arrival outside these hours can be made in advance. |
