Welcome to Cabrière Estate
and the wine valley of the French Huguenots in the Cape.
One of the unique facets that make
up the astonishing diversity of the beauty of Southern Africa is undoubtedly
the Cape.
The brave French Huguenot refugees
must have imagined that God had created for them a new Provence and a new
Côte d’Azur at the most southern tip of Africa when they landed in
the Cape 300 years ago. |
| In their valley, Franschhoek, the
"French Corner", vintner and cellar master, Achim von Arnim, fifth generation
South African - German from Cape Town and Geisenheim graduate, continues
the Huguenot tradition of growing great wines and sparkling wines "méthode
Champenoise" on Cabrière estate.
We invite you to venture out from
Cape Town over breathtaking mountains to visit Cabrière Estate,
85 km inland, to come and taste our wine. The tasting can also be presented
in German, provided you request it by giving us a call 48 hours in advance. |
 |
 |
Experience the elegance of a South
African "méthode Champenoise" from the "Pierre Jourdan" range, named
in honour of the first vintner, as well as our Haute Cabrière white
and Burgundy style red wine, all along getting a feel for the 300 year
old wine history of South Africa.
For a further treat, enjoy lunch
or dinner afterwards at our Haute Cabrière Cellar Restaurant. Situated high above the village on
the pass into the splendid Franschhoek mountain ranges, dug into the mountain,
the cool restaurant is truly part of the cellar.
|
Visible through a window, the underground red wine barrel cellar forms the background to the restaurant.
Here "haute cuisine" and Haute Cabrière
wines compliment each other and will make your day, supported by a team
of charming and efficient restaurant staff, and a South African chef, Matthew
Gordon, who knows how to combine local ingredients with international skill.
An experience that will linger in
your memory! |
