Do you want to experience fun, adventure and wildlife in an exciting unique way? Africa Beetle Marathon offers you the opportunity to travel through Southern Africa in a “Volksie”.
The Africa Beetle Marathon was inspired by the 1968 London to Sydney Marathon, one of the great inter-continental races of a bygone era.
It's an epic endurance driving challenge through Southern Africa. |
This event entails each vehicle carrying all of its own equipment, tools and spares. Each vehicle and team is a completely self-sufficient unit operating without the luxury of an individual dedicated support team.
The Africa Beetle Marathon is strictly amateur and not affiliated to any motor sport body. Prizes consist of trophies for specific positional finishers as well as medals to all who finish within the specified allowable time. |

This is an "arrive and drive" concept. Participants will be able to arrive in a designated city and be supplied with a fully prepared VW Beetle and all the associated equipment. All you will have to do is purchase your food for the journey and pay your petrol, park entrance and camping fees.
The first Beetle Marathon took place in 1999. It always starts in South Africa and crosses two or more neighbouring countries. It finishes back in South Africa in the city where it started, usually after trekking about 8000 kilometres in 18 to 20 days!

The Africa Beetle Marathon rekindles the adventure and romance of the bygone era of the great inter-continental endurance road journeys that reached a peak in the 60's and 70's.
Add the iconic VW Beetle and the mystical continent of Africa and the result is a unique event which you wont forget. |
