The town is full of historical spots
like the Afrikaans Monument the artwork of the sculptor, Ian van Wyk on
top of the hill, and which is open for visitors.
The city lies in the Bergriver Valley
surrounded by winelands and a view of the Drakenstein Mountains.
The Main Street stretches for approximately
10km through the centre of town with many historical buildings like the
Thatched Roof Church, Kaaps-Hollands and Victorian style houses and buildings.
The Paarl Museum, a typical Kaaps-Hollands building hosts many documents
and photographs of times gone past. |
In the Paarl area you will find some
of the best Wine Estates in the world. The best known is probably Nederberg
which host a wine auction every year. Another well-known name is KWV which
is popular for its brandy and sherry. Fairview, Backberg and Laborie is
also in the area.
Paarl is situated centrally in a
tourist attraction area, just 20 minutes drive from Stellenbosch and Franschoek
and 40 minutes drive from Cape Town with the Indian and Atlantic Oceans,
V & A Waterfront, Castle of Good Hope, Malay Quarters, Kirstenbosch
Botanical Gardens and Table Mountain.
| Paarl also lies amidst the four
passes known as Franschoek, Helshoogte, Sir Lowry and Viljoen Pass. Enjoy
a round trip through the fruit areas to Wellington with a big variety of
dried fruits, go over the Bainskloof Pass to Ceres, known as a orange area
and taste the Waterblommetjies, while returning to Paarl via the Du Toitskloof
Pass.
In and around Paarl various other
sightseeing trips can be arranged like vists to the Crocodile Farm, Snake
Park, Ostrich Farm, Lion Park, Butterfly Park, the Nut Farm and the Ikhwezi
Centre - where you can experience the culture of Africa. |

The town have a beautiful 18-hole golf
course for sport enthusiasts as well as numerous hiking trails and sightseeing
spots for nature lovers. Experience sunrise in this part of the country
with a exquisite breakfast in a hot-air balloon.
Paarl offers some of the best Restaurants
in South Africa and local chefs will serve South African dishes like Bobotie,
Waterblommetjiebredie or a Cape Malayan Tomatoe Bredie. Traditionally a
Sunday lunch consist of a braai with Boerewors or Snoek (fish). The many
wine cellars and pubs make sure that nobody stay thirsty for too long.
