Kruger National Park

The Kruger National Park is one of the most highly acclaimed national parks in the world.

It's nearly 22,000 square kilometres of undisturbed savanna, woodland, riverine forest and craggy mountain ranges, possess one of the greatest diversities of animal life, anywhere on the planet.  This includes some 500 species of birds, 147 mammal species, 94 different reptile species, 33 types of amphibians and a wonderful array of more than 200 kinds of trees.

Weather

Straddling the tropic of Capricorn, the Kruger has excellent weather, with an average daytime temperature of  31 degrees in the summer (October to March) and only 7 degrees lower in winter, at 25 degrees (May to September).  The Park has summer rainfall.

Time of year to visit

All year round:  Every season has much to offer. In the winter for instance and because of the lack of rain, there is not the surface water throughout the park that there is in summer.  This forces the animals to use the permanent water holes, increasing the chances of sightings, but animals can be seen all year round.  The summer has the advantage of the shrubs and trees coming into bloom, giving some wonderful floral displays.

Accommodation

There is a whole array of accommodation available, from tented camps to ultra luxury Lodges.

Bungalow with en-suite facilities.

Exciting things happening

The already massive, nearly 20,000 square km Kruger National Park, is soon to stretch its borders deep into neighbouring Mozambique and Zimbabwe, forming the biggest game reserve in the world.

Testimony to the peaceful co-existence between countries of southern Africa, the border fences came down in early 2002. The new Gaza-Kruger-Gonarezhou Transfrontier Park will be an incredible 38,000 square kilometres of wild Africa bigger than many countries, this huge area will restore the natural range of the areas the elephants, through the Lebombo mountain range.
