Clarens
restores body, mind and soul!
 |
Clarens, situated in the scenic
Eastern Highlands of the Free State Province, is an ideal stop-over when
travelling from Natal, Mpumalanga or Gauteng to the Eastern or Western
Cape.
Surrounded by the Maluti and Rooiberg
mountain ranges, the quaint, picturesque town of Clarens, was named by
President Paul Kruger after "Clarens" in Switzerland, because the two villages
share such breathtaking scenery. |
| This beautiful hamlet boasts over
fifteen art galleries, seven fine restaurants and numerous tourist and
gift shops. There is also a supermarket, butchery, post office,
bottle store and ATM facilities in the village.
Tennis, squash, bowls, mountain walks,
fishing, game viewing, horse riding, mountain biking, 4x4 trails, birding,
and white water rafting are some of the activities offered by Clarens.
Clarens has developed into a highly popular trout fishing resort.
Fishing rods are available at some resorts.
The Golden Gate National Park borders
on the town and many species of birds and animals can be seen as one drives
on tar roads in the picturesque mountains and valleys. |
