Gauteng is the smallest of the nine provinces and is surrounded by the provinces of North West, Limpopo and Mpumalanga.

It has a wealth of culture in the museums, galleries, art routes and historical battlefields.

Gauteng is situated in the heart of the Highveld and is the economic powerhouse of South Africa. It is dominated by urban areas, but it also offers several botanical gardens and bird sanctuaries, as well as a treasure trove for the avid palaeontologist.

The town of Cullinan was named after Sir Thomas Cullinan, the owner of the mine that gave the world its biggest diamond, the Cullinan Diamond. Presented as a gift to Edward VII, Cullinan 1 and 2 are now part of the United Kingdom's crown jewels.

The Tswaing Crater is one of the best preserved meteorite impact craters in the world, with an extensive wetland system, wildlife and a variety of plant species.

Meaning "a place of rivers", Dinokeng lies in the catchment area of two rivers that flow into the Olifants and Limpopo rivers.

In African culture, river sources have sacred significance and their confluences are believed to hold healing powers.
