Situated on the East Coast of South Africa, in KwaZulu Natal, north of Durban, lies the Dolphin Coast.

Magical encounters with our planet's most endearing sea-creatures, the bottle-nose dolphins, provided the name for this sub-tropical paradise, with stunning golden beaches and sheltered coves to lure the sun lover.

A two-hour drive north, will take you into the heart of big five country, while 60 km south will find you in the buzzing metropolis of Durban!

Zulu Nation

The traditional home of the Zulu Nation, the Dolphin Coast was settled by the colonials and later the Indian people, who came to work in the sugar cane fields and trade their wares from the East.

The towns along this coastline have interesting names originating from fascinating tales. Shaka's rock is named after the warrior king who is reputed to have loved this seaside resort.

Salt Rock gets its name from a rock near the hotel from which the Zulu people extracted salt.

Ballito Bay is named after a famous brand of Italian stockings, though the reason for this is not clear.

With its unique mix of luxury resorts, a wide variety of comfortable and affordable accommodations and plenty of adventure for the nature and sports lover, this magnificent stretch of coastline is in close proximity to the wonderful attractions of KwaZulu Natal.

This eclectic mix of people has created a fascinating cultural mosaic offering, both ultra-modern facilities and ancient customs.

Infused with the presence of King Shaka and the pioneering spirit of early settlers, the Dolphin Coast is a prime holiday destination.
